is a 98 year old ever-present style and fashion icon. Her style is exuberant. It cannot be contented to just a single thing.
In fact, when Apfel was asked by Kathryn Kattalia to define her style in an interview for The Zoe Report, she refused, stating that it was an "absolutely impossible" task. Apfel further stated that her style was for others to describe, as it was one thing to her, but a potentially completely different thing to others.
It is this attitude, of not putting a definition on fashion, that keeps Apfel in the spotlight as an icon to many. Her focus on personal touches and meanings are the backbone of the fashion industry. Anyone can wear clothes, but it takes a special person or group of people to recognize the significance that each garment can have to a single person.
It is no small task to find garments, let alone an entire style, that defines any one person. Apfel simplifies the search process with words of wisdom from a seasoned fashionista. She says, "If you're not comfortable, you can't look well. I mean, you have to be relaxed. The clothes shouldn't wear you. You have to wear the clothes. The clothes should be like part of your skin as far as the way they feel. If they're too heavy or too tight or too flashy or too something, it does something to your psyche, I think."
To some, style or fashion has little significance. For those who struggle to speak loudly with their voice, or for those who have all the confidence in the world, having the right outfit on can be magical.
For Apfel, style has played a major part in her career. She's booked partnerships, influenced masses, and become an icon solely based on her individualism. To her, "Style, it opens doors for everybody. Style to me is attitude, attitude, attitude, and your attitude is what presents you."
